Fraser River Valley Fishing Report
July 7th, 2010
 Sturgeon Fishing
I’ll start with Sturgeon fishing as it has been very HOT, we have been consistently putting our clients on the BIG fish the last month and it only gets better from here. As more Salmon pour into the Fraser system, big Sturgeon will also arrive in the area to feed on their carcasses. If you have never been on a Sturgeon Fishing adventure, from now until late fall is a great time to try this super fishery out. With the warm waters of summer these BIG Sturgeon fight harder and are more likely to jump than any other time of year.

At Bent Rods we can accommodate any size group for a Sturgeon fishing adventure. Summer is a great time for a company outing and Sturgeon fishing is a fantastic option as typically everyone will get a chance to do battle with one of these prehistoric creatures.

Salmon Fishing
Salmon fishing is set to open on July 16th in the Fraser River and it can't come quick enough for Bent Rods and our guides. Chinook numbers are looking good and we have witnessed many rolling Chinooks while doing Sturgeon trips. With the river on the drop and starting to clear up a little, our Chinook techniques should be producing fish in the latter part of July and we will be booking Chinook trips from late July till early October. At Bent Rods we have taken the time and effort to master a whole array of techniques for catching Chinook Salmon. Whether sitting on anchor with the age old spin 'n glos, backtrolling giant Kwikfish, back bouncing our SUPER ROE, sitting on anchor with spinners and wobblers deployed, or float fishing roe and Jigs- Bent Rods can put you on the Wild Chinook of the Fraser River and her tributaries.

Vedder River
The famous Vedder/Chilliwack River will start to see the hatchery enhanced Chinook Salmon start returning in early July and fresh fish will be present in the system until early August. These super hard fighting Chinook may only average 10- 12 pounds but they are simply the hardest fighting fish this river has. As an added attraction the River also receives a strong return of Summer Sockeye Salmon headed for Chilliwack Lake.
At Bent Rods our guides can provide 1 or 2 anglers an affordable option with walk n wade trips on the Chilliwack River chasing Chinook and Sockeye Salmon. One Chinook can be retained per angler and the Sockeye are strictly catch and release.
The best methods for catching the Summer Chinook and Sockeye is float fishing Jigs tipped with various crustaceans or fishing cured prawns and sometimes salmon eggs. Another great method for catching the Chinook is float fishing custom painted Colorado blades.

Summer Steelhead
The Fraser Valley has a very limited Summer Steelhead fishery. This high effort fishery can be rewarding for those who put in the time and effort, but expectations should be low and the rewards expected from finding fish in some of the most beautiful places in the Fraser Valley. Bent Rods does offer Summer Steelhead trips, but these are best suited to anglers in top physical shape with a realistic expectation of success.

I wish everyone a Fantastic July, Good Times, Great Fishing and Happy Days for all my friends!
